Dr. James Harding Jones founded the International House in 1946 with the idea of bringing together students from different cultures from around the world. In 1964, the International House was opened, and the official IHP office began operating. What began with four French exchange students has expanded to 240 international students from over 60 countries (international students living both inside the International House and elsewhere on campus or in the community. 

The International House itself accommodates 20 American and 20 international students selected from a rigorous application process that includes essays and interviews. Students selected as member of the International House receive the International House scholarship, which covers tuition and housing for up to two years.
